BURKS PUMPS (DECATUR PUMP CO.)

The Decatur Pump Company, a maker of pumps used in residential wells and industrial processes, has been acquired by a company owned by the vice president for manufacturing of Decatur Pump and backers in New York.


The new company, Burks Pumps Inc., said it took over operations of Decatur Pump Dec. 31. It said the company had sales last year of more than $10 million and assets of more than $5 million. The purchase price was not disclosed. Curtis J. Sears, president of Burks Pumps, said the new company intends to continue and expand the present business in Decatur, Ill.

About 50,000 pumps are manufactured by Burks Pumps of Decatur each year. The company was founded in 1914 by Arthur W. Burks. The company is at 2750 Nelson Park Road and employs about 100 people.
